Viladecans Soccer Field Refurbishment and Expansion
1st PRIZE Competition

The priority is to simplify the flow of the public to avoid excessive mass movements of people on the different levels and to favor the evacuation and entry of people, so that the main entrance is located at the level of one of the two bleachers.
is located at the level of one of the two tiers. This aspect links the relationship with the site, the topography and the functioning of the proposal.

It is the aim of the project to find the right balance between the functionality of the new program and the pre-existences, so that a coherent and unitary dialogue of the whole sports complex is established.

– Integration into the environment; the main access from Ferran i Clua street is integrated into the urban environment by establishing a smooth and ascending entrance on level ground, in the new covered outdoor lobby. The resulting space is fluid and generous, provides a platform that opens new visuals, avoids the dead end, and results in a new public space that provides environmental quality with the proposed vegetation.

– Volumetric integration; the resulting volumetric proposal aims to integrate into the existing grandstands with a light, low height proposal, where horizontality dominates. The result is that the canopy of the existing building is not detracted from the importance of the existing building, which will remain as a single and dominant platform throughout the complex, highlighting the position of the main field of the sports competition.

– Unitary project; a criterion of material continuity is established throughout the whole, so that the concrete, in this case prefabricated, establishes the link with the existing architecture. On the other hand, a unitary treatment is also proposed for the main façade; a continuous metal and vegetal fence establishes the continuity of the whole complex and also incorporates the door closures. This new facade becomes a light element superimposed on the existing one (therefore without demolition work) and favors the ventilation of the new courtyard created. This courtyard includes the vertical connection between the new hall and the existing stands, while allowing the ventilation and natural lighting described below.
