House in Monells

House in Monells

On the edge of the historic town of Monells in the Baix Empordà , an existing plot is completed with a house. The occupation of the plot serves the existing boundaries of the town, consolidates the streets and opens the inner courtyard. An inner private courtyard appears adjoining the street, and compensates the northern orientation of the house. The geometry of a one floor house embraces and releases the inner garden. We integrate the new and the existent by adapting the topography attenuating its presence.

Local materials and construction systems are used; a ceramic tiled roof, environment ground colors on the plaster, polished concrete floors, exterior cladding with recycled wood and large casement windows that can generate visual permeability.
