1st Prize – Plaza Mayor. Palma, Mallorca

First Prize in the competition for the improvement of Palma’s Plaza Mayor, the lower floors and the surrounding area. Project organised by Palma City Council.
Co-authors: Scob arquitectura i paisatge.

PROJECT REPORT

The intervention responds to the challenges and potential of such a delicate and strategic enclave for Palma as the Plaça Major. From an urban perspective, the proposal seeks to reinforce the continuity of the urban fabric, endowing the spaces with new uses that favour their vitality. The public space is conceived as a place for meeting and activity, in which both the inhabitants and the city itself recognise their identity. An identity that in our view remains, improving the relationship with the surroundings, the adjacent streets, the promenade and the space under the square. The new areas provide value and identity, integrating harmoniously into the historic fabric of the Old Town.
