Competition for the construction of an Students Residence at the Health Sciences Campus of the Universitat de Barcelona, located at Bellvitge.
A compact and continuous construction model is proposed which meets the requirements of an ‘L’ shaped, isolated building. The model relates to the type of nearby infrastructure and housing.
Since the level of occupancy is low, this allows minimal intervention in the terrain, reducing the environmental impact on the site and increasing the space available for the city.
As far as the distribution of rooms is concerned, a design based on a central corridor with rooms leading off on both sides is proposed, optimizing ease of movement and the compactness of the complex. This compactness and the optimization of the orientation plus passive systems of energy control means a building with a high grade of energy efficiency.
